Presentation

The Network´s project focuses on industrial landscapes that have entered a phase of de-industrialisation or that support a hybrid condition, a condition that makes them valuable as heritage or unique places, although, on the other hand, it reveals their vulnerability due to the high risk of being involved in recessive or destructive dynamics. All of this brings us into a complex and kaleidoscopic field of study of the post-industrial landscape, which implies considering landscape from an dinamic perspective, as a cultural construct and as a scalar and multidisciplinary approach, such as the one encompassed by the different profiles of the eleven groups that make up the Thematic Network.

Post-industrial landscapes whose nature is materialised in the form of territorial networks in which industrial relations, architectures, installations, techniques used in their processes, transport systems, but also non-tangible values are inserted. This fact leads to a more multifaceted vision that justifies the Thematic Network, made up of groups working on shared lines related to heritage, cultural and industrial landscape, urban and territorial dynamics from various disciplines such as architecture, urban planning, art history and human geography.

With these premises, a scientific work infrastructure based on the exchange and complementarity of concepts, methodologies and techniques of quantitative and qualitative analysis of post-industrial landscapes is proposed, seeking to confront and unite the previous results obtained by the various research groups. One of the characteristics of the project is to improve the dialogue between different fields of academic knowledge, and, on the other hand, to promote transfer actions towards the agents directly involved in the cataloguing, conservation and intervention of industrial landscapes, as well as society as a whole.
