Project facts
Presentation
The e-Archeo project was created to describe some of the sites of national interest (Sirmione and Desenzano, Marzabotto, Cerveteri, Alba Fucens, Velia, Egnazia, Sibari and Nora) that are guardians of the archaeological heritage that characterizes Italy, from north to south, including the islands, with particular attention to content and digital accessibility to Cultural Heritage.
e-Archeo is the first large-scale project aggregating research institutions, universities and academies, creative industries, and experts in the cultural heritage sector in its many forms.
For each of the eight archaeological sites of Etruscan, Greek and Phoenician, Punic, indigenous, and Roman foundations, the history and development were told through the illustration of the best-preserved monuments, which were presented in their current reality and in a reconstructive vision aimed at giving them back the third dimension lost over the centuries.
e-Archeo allows five different kinds of interaction:
- e-Archeo 3D allows the visualization of the 8 archaeological areas, through searchable 360-degree scenarios and is populated by multimedia contents of various kinds: videos, images, and 3D models of individual finds. The exploration of individual sites is designed to be carried out in situ, by visiting the archaeological area live, or online, from home or at school
- e-Archeo Voci provides a compelling cross-section of a series of narrative insights, built on the basis of scientific data collected by universities and proposed in a non-specialist language to reach the general public
- e-Archeo Tattile aims to involve the visitor by inviting him to interact with some objects reproduced three-dimensionally and materially, which serve as a medium for an audiovisual narration on the screen
- e-Archeo HI® is the application designed and developed only for the archaeological contexts of Cerveteri, Lazio, and Sirmione, Lombardy, starting from scientific data collected by universities and proposed in non-specialist language to reach the public. The user interacts with the narrator having the impression of conversing with him, vocally or by selecting topics via tablet, thanks to a narrative structure with nodes
- e-Archeo Video is a video narrating the project that tells the objectives, the elements of innovation and good practices, the synergies put in place, the methodologies and the outputs achieved. It does so through the real shots of the sites to which virtual reconstructions are integrated, often in camera tracking, interviews with the protagonists, backstage shots in the various laboratories and examples of the project outputs.
Finally, e-Archeo.it collects the work and digital experiences developed in just over an intense year of research and development among all the project partners, presents the communicative outputs to be enjoyed online and on-site and promotes their vision to a great audience.
The acquisition and processing of all the scientific data of research and academic groups operating on single sites was a valuable preliminary activity. The CNR ISPC coordinated this activity which involved nine Italian universities and the Italian School of Archaeology in Athens.
Impacts & Results
The focus of e-Archeo was to create an integrated and multichannel multimedia enhancement project with transversal solutions for all the sites, both online and on-site, for various uses and types of audiences as final outputs.
