About
EUreka3D-XR is the continuation project of EUreka3D, funded by the Digital Europe Programme of the European Union, to develop innovative re-use scenarios and tools that enable the creation of extended reality (XR) applications, through expanding the features and services already developed and tested in the EUreka3D project.
The main research area of the new action in EUreka3D-XR is focused on transforming cultural contents such 2D, 3D, video, texts, maps, stories into compelling narratives and extended reality scenarios, and to deliver said scenarios to the common European data space for cultural heritage, to enrich the corpus of open access digital cultural contents online and to inspire others in experimenting new technologies.
EUreka3D-XR will deliver 5 open source digital tools that include online services and mobile apps to support innovative reuse and more compelling engagement with cultural 3D resources in various settings, collaboratively, with sustainable costs and efforts, leveraging XR and other advanced technologies applied to heritage collections.
EUreka3D-XR will handle three showcase scenarios, which will be available in the common European data space for cultural heritage as contents and documentation:
- The virtual visualisation of the middle-ages walls of the city of Girona
- The XR narrative of excavations in process in the Bibracte archaeological site
- The creation of a new life of Saint Neophytos Englystra in Cyprus in the virtual space
EUreka3D-XR will also promote capacity building and the re-use of digitalised cultural heritage to professionals in the cultural sector and in other domains such as education, tourism research and preservation.

Impacts & Results
The EUreka3D-XR project continues the work of EUreka3D project to provide capacity building, resources and tools expressly dedicated to Cultural Heritage Institutions who want to innovate the way they approach 3D digitization, access, storage, sharing and reuse.
EUreka3D-XR supports the common European data space for cultural heritage led by Europeana:
- Tools for the data space: we will deliver 5 open-source digital tools for CHIs, to reuse their 3D and other digital content
- Use-cases and XR scenarios: we will realize 3 XR scenarios to demonstrate benefits and success stories realized with the tools
- New contents in the data space: we will aggregate contents in Europeana to enrich the corpus of open access digital cultural contents online and publish editorials and learning/training resources to inspire others in experimenting new technologies.
